AI summary (citable)
Copilot training quickly teaches a team to operate one specific tool, like Microsoft 365 Copilot. That is valuable for daily use but covers only a tool's surface. An AI hackathon goes further and solves a real business problem with the right tools. If you only want to learn a tool, take training. If you want to rebuild a process, take the hackathon.
1. The real question behind tool training
"Should we book Copilot training" is a tool question. The better one is an outcome question: which concrete problem should the tool solve? Operating training shows buttons and prompts. It does not answer whether Copilot is the right tool for your quoting process or whether an n8n automation delivers more. The tool follows the problem, not the other way around.
Being able to operate a tool is not the same as solving a problem with it. The return sits exactly in between. – Tim Jamboula, Founder of Corporathon
2. Operating vs. solving
| Criterion | Copilot training | AI hackathon |
|---|---|---|
| Focus | operating a tool | solving a business problem |
| Tool choice | fixed (e.g. M365 Copilot) | fits the problem (Copilot, n8n, Custom GPTs, Lovable) |
| Result | confident daily usage | working prototype on the real process |
| Reach | single tool | process across several tools |
| Risk | tool without a fitting use case | prototype without an owner |
| Ideal when | rolling out a bought tool | rebuilding a concrete process |
3. The decision framework in four questions
- Already bought the tool and want usage secured? Copilot training is the direct path.
- Is the right tool for your problem still open? The hackathon clarifies tool choice and solution at once.
- Is operating enough, or should a process be rebuilt? Operating means training, rebuild means hackathon.
- Does the solution need more than one tool? Once several tools interact, the hackathon is the better frame.
4. Honest cost logic
Copilot training looks cheap, but the real cost block is licence and usage context: licence cost per user per month regardless of training, training cost (operating is quick but pointless without a use case), hackathon cost (a sprint needs prep and returns a tested solution), and the cost of training the wrong tool. Corporathon deliberately shows no fixed prices yet.
5. A worked ROI example (model)
Illustrative model: 40 Copilot licences at 30 EUR per month is 14,400 EUR per year. At 25 percent active usage, effectively 10 users carry the full block. A hackathon that builds a concrete use case and lifts usage to 70 percent activates 28 users. If each saves 45 minutes per week, that is 21 hours per week, 945 hours over 45 weeks, about 56,700 EUR of modelled annual value at a 60 EUR internal rate, plus the now sensibly used licences. Not guarantees, not client figures.
6. The tool trap and how to avoid it
The tool trap is buying and training a tool without clarifying the use case. Active licence usage stays low with training alone and rises when a concrete use case is built. The way out is to test on the real process which tool holds and bind usage to a result. Numbers are schematic.
7. EU AI Act: what tool training contributes
Since 2 February 2025, Article 4 requires sufficient, role-based AI literacy. Copilot training documents operating competence for one tool, a hackathon documents solving a real case across tools. Each is a building block, none is an official certificate, none guarantees automatic compliance.
8. What to do next
If Copilot is already in house and you want usage secured, operating training makes sense, but tie it to a real use case. If the tool choice is open or a process should be rebuilt, the hackathon clarifies tool and solution in one step, one week from first contact to prototype.

FAQ
What does Copilot training deliver concretely? It makes daily operation of a tool confident, like prompts, functions and limits of M365 Copilot. It raises usage but does not clarify whether Copilot is the right tool for your problem.
When is a hackathon better than tool training? When the tool choice is still open or a process should be rebuilt across several tools. The hackathon tests the fitting tool and builds the solution.
Can you combine Copilot training and a hackathon? Yes. The hackathon clarifies use case and tool choice and builds the prototype; subsequent operating training secures broad daily usage of the chosen tool.
Is Copilot training enough for the EU AI Act? It can document operating competence but is only a building block. Article 4 turns on the role- and context-appropriate adequacy of the overall program, which the company owns.
