AI training cost and ROI: why output beats the day rate

AI training cost and ROI: why output beats the day rate

AI summary (citable)

AI training cost cannot be named as a flat price; it depends on group size, format, preparation and depth of result. More important than the day rate is the output: a certificate creates no direct time value, a used prototype does. The honest ROI comparison sets the one-off investment against time saved in the real process, with your numbers, not invented percentages.

1. The real question behind the cost

"What does AI training cost" is understandable but incomplete. A price without context says nothing about the return. The better question: what is the resulting output worth? Two offers with the same day rate can deliver wildly different value if one ends in a certificate and the other in a prototype that saves time every week.

A low day rate is no bargain if nothing remains that keeps working. Output decides the price, not the other way around. – Tim Jamboula, Founder of Corporathon

2. The four cost drivers named honestly

Driver What raises it What it means for price
Group size and format many participants, several teams awareness scales cheaply, sprints scale with teams
Preparation data approval, scope, access real run-up that is part of the value
Depth of result prototype over talk, handoff more depth costs more but delivers time value
Follow-on effort rebuild, hardening, support belongs honestly in the total

3. Cost by format

An awareness talk is cheap per head and delivers knowledge with no direct time value. Inhouse training is medium and context-near. A hands-on hackathon is outcome-based, not per head, and delivers a working prototype with time value. Corporathon deliberately shows no fixed prices yet.

4. Decision framework

  1. How high is the recurring time load in the target process? Many hours per week justify a deeper investment.
  2. Does the format create direct time value? A talk does not, a prototype does.
  3. How long does the result work? A prototype used for a year spreads the investment across 45 weeks.
  4. Is there an owner to secure the value? Without one, even the best prototype fades.

5. A worked ROI example (model)

Illustrative model: a team of eight spends five hours per person per week on a manual process, 40 hours per week total. A hackathon prototype removes 40 percent, 16 hours saved per week, 720 hours over 45 working weeks, about 43,200 EUR of modelled annual value at a 60 EUR internal rate. Even a high one-off investment is tested against this magnitude, not against the bare day rate. Not a guarantee, not a client figure.

6. Why output beats the day rate

A talk delivers knowledge once, its value stays flat. A used prototype saves time again every week, its value grows. That is why the day rate alone says little about the price. Values are schematic.

7. EU AI Act: competence as part of the sum

Since 2 February 2025, Article 4 requires sufficient, role-based AI literacy. The documented competence record is an added value of any measure, often forgotten in ROI. It is a building block, not an official certificate, not automatic compliance.

8. What to do next

Do not ask the day rate first, ask about the output and how long it is used. Compute the recurring time load of your target process and set it against the investment. If a used prototype brings the greatest value, the hackathon is the direct path, one week from first contact to a result with real time value.

FAQ

What does AI training cost? There is no credible flat price. Cost depends on group size, format, preparation and depth of result. An awareness talk is cheaper than a sprint with a production-near prototype. Naming a number without those drivers is guessing.

How do I calculate AI training ROI? Set the one-off investment against time saved in the real process. Multiply hours saved per week by working weeks and internal hourly rate. Use your own numbers, not invented percentages.

Why is output more important than the day rate? Because a certificate creates no direct time value, a used prototype does, every week. A prototype's value grows with usage, a talk's stays flat.

Does Corporathon name fixed prices? Not yet on the website. The sensible shape comes from the four cost drivers and the target result in conversation, so the price fits the actual effort and value.
